September 2006
Of special interest to owners of polytunnels / cold greenhouses…….
….and especially to prospective owners. In calendar 2003, Organic Gardening Magazine had a month-by-month series covering the life of a polytunnel owner. Things don’t change in gardening that quickly, and so the 2003 series are still very relevant. The 12 issue are available for just £12 post free. It is very useful as an encyclopaedia, and for less than the price of most gardening books. Call Jean Armin (of Organic Gardening Magazine) on 01643 707339, but do it soon before they run out of the back copy sets. You can pay by bankers card or credit card over the phone.
August 2006
Organic Gardening Magazine is the only magazine that is wholly organic. There are a large number of gardening / smallholder magazines. They each have their own qualities and you can’t buy them all! I can only say that all the people I know find this one very interesting and practical, and very useful for keeping as a reference. There is even a regular children’s section called Gardening Bug!
For the September edition (which covers the month of August!) click on the front cover, the first and second contents pages, and the Gardening Bug page.
It has a series of special offers for subscriptions. The normal cover price is £2.95 but you can get a 12 month subscription delivered to your house for as little as £29.95, a 15% saving.
The best offer is one which is really designed for allotments and we can tap into it. In our small scheme, we receive a 50% discount, that’s just £1.50 a copy. All the copies go to one address; they are then distributed from that address. We are running a trial in the North of the IOM around Ramsey, with all 16 copies coming to me, Ian Davies in Andreas, and the copies are taken in to Mother Nature in Ramsey. They kindly keep them behind the counter for members to pick up when they do their shopping.
If anyone in the Ramsey area would like to join in, please contact Ian Davies at iandavies@manx.net or on 882332. Ramsey includes as far afield as Kirk Michael, Maughold and Sulby, it all depends on whether you shop regularly in Ramsey or not. We are currently running it for a year which started in January and will finish in December. We will then review who wants to stay etc, and book for a further period. So you could try it for 3 months if you let me know quickly.
If anyone is prepared to run a similar scheme elsewhere in the Island, then please contact Ian Davies for details. I understand that Good Health in Port Erin might be prepared to be a repository for the monthly copies.
